Die zehnbändige Anthologie enthält – was sonst? – alle Erzählungen Theodore Sturgeons (1918-1985).

Sturgeon gehörte gemeinsam mit Bradbury, Leiber und Asimov zur Elite der amerikanischen Autoren, die Science-Fiction von ihrem pulp-Image befreiten.

Seine Geschichten handeln von Charakteren und, wenn überhaupt, nur vordergründig von technischen Spielereien.

Häufig spielen 'Mutanten' und andere Aussenseiter die Hauptrolle. Figuren, die ihre besonderen Fähigkeiten ängstlich vor den Mitmenschen verbergen müssen.

Sturgeons in Deutschland erschienene Erzählungen wurden teilweise erschreckend schlecht übersetzt.
